We are still open and working on orders during the lockdown. This is possible as we have a large amount of stock components including fabric and frames so our team are able to complete the orders from home.
A British lampshade manufacturer, making beautiful lighting and custom lampshades from our London workshop
Based on the beautiful Kent coast, 1 hour from London by train. Copper & Silk's small workshop set back from the old cobbled highstreet makes lampshades, cushions and recently has started to hand print their own textile designs on to wonderfully soft linen in eco friendly water-based dyes. Founded by Daniel the company moved from London to Folkestone for more space and less stress which gives us more time to spend creating beautifully made soft furnishings. The result is a simple workshop with wonderful charm, a real attention to the detail and to the old ways of making that has been the key to the craft of lampshade manufacture for centurys.
Two vintage sewing machines, "Aretha" and "Tom" from the old days of industry are used to great affect to prepare the fabric for our gathered lampshades, then it is back to skillful and patient gathering of each pleat by hand. All lampshades ordered on our website, be it card-lined or pleated are made-to-order here in Kent by hand in any of our materials or your own.
Our attention to detail and the fast delivery times make us popular for individual customers and some of the UK’s top Interior Designers.
Now in our eighth year of trading, we continue to improve our service and offerings. In 2016 the website was completely re-designed to present more information, and give a more accurate representation of everything our factory can provide. As a lampshade manufacturer we offer beautifully proportioned designs able to be customised with any of our fabrics or your own.
Copper & Silk is named after the two principle materials used in our workshop - copper-coated wire for the lampshade structure, and silk for the lampshade outer, although we also stock some lovely Irish linens and hand printed cottons. We truly are Made in England and proud of our connection with every aspect of manufacture.
We hope to hear from you and thank you for supporting us.
